About The Artist



Ralph Butler, illustrator of When Mommy Had a Mastectomy, is an award-winning artist. He first earned his degree at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL, his home state. Butler's craft has been put to use in many different areas, such as being a Graphic Artist in Vietnam, creating the bicentennial medal for the state of Florida, and creating the winning design for the 2004 Florida state quarter.

After a 13 year stint as an adjunct professor at Montgomery College in Maryland, Butler began work as a freelance illustrator in 1990. Throughout his career, Butler has racked up many awards from such prestigious associations as the Washington Illustrators Club, DESI, Society of Illustrators, Graphics International, and Print Design Annual. His work has appeared in numerous national publications and books, most recently being his enchanting illustrations in When Mommy Had a Mastectomy.
